HSBC Global Private Banking Bulks Up Frontline, CLM Teams In Asia

The UK/Hong Kong-listed bank has unveiled a number of appointments in areas such as private banking, client lifecycle management and risk management across Southeast Asia and elsewhere.
HSBC Global Private Banking has unveiled a raft of appointments across its frontline and client lifecycle management teams in Asia.
HSBC said the moves are part of its desire to expand coverage for high net worth and ultra-HNW clients in Southeast Asia and the wider region.
“Our ambition is not just to grow, but to grow responsibly,” Tommy Leung, head of Global Private Banking, South Asia, HSBC, said. “We are investing in both our frontline bankers and our client lifecycle management teams to ensure that as our clients’ needs expand across borders, we are able to meet them with the highest standards of service, security, and risk management.
“This is about positioning HSBC for the next three to five years – building a strong bench of relationship managers, alongside a resilient second line of defence – so that our growth is both sustainable and safe,” Leung said.
Southeast Asia and Global India
Edy Panggabean has been appointed senior relationship manager and
cluster head for Indonesia. He has joined from UBS Global
Wealth Management, where he advised UHNW families, family offices
and entrepreneurs across Indonesia. With more than 20 years of
private banking experience, Panggabean will lead HSBC’s Indonesia
cluster, reporting to Urban Binggeli, desk head, Indonesia.
Xilin Yeo is joining the Indonesia team as relationship manager (RM); she previously worked in serving sophisticated clients across Southeast Asia at UBS Global Wealth Management.
Kraisit Buakruen has joined as an RM based in Singapore, reporting to Benjamin Wang, desk head for Thailand and Vietnam. He brings more than a decade of wealth management and private banking experience, most recently with Kasikornbank in Bangkok.
Fiona Gan is joining the Greater China team as an RM, reporting to Catherine Claire Lim, desk head for China and Hong Kong. She brings extensive experience of advising sophisticated clients from mainland China and has strong expertise in delivering holistic wealth solutions to HNW and UHNW clients. Gan was previously at UBS Global Wealth Management.
Shobana Vaidhyanathan, who is joining the Global India team in Singapore as an RM, has 24 years of experience across private banking, wealth, and corporate banking in Singapore and India, most recently with Citi Private Bank.
Sangeet Batra is also joining the Global India team in Singapore as an RM. With two decades of experience at global banks and hedge funds, including Barclays Investment Bank in Singapore and New York, he brings deep relationships and cross-market expertise. Most recently, he served as head of business development at Southern Ridges Capital, a Singapore-headquartered global macro hedge fund.
CLM and risk functions
Clarence Arokiasamy has been appointed regional head of client
lifecycle management, Global Private Banking, based in Hong Kong.
He has been with HSBC since 2016.
Souvik Bera joined from UBS as regional head of commercial due diligence business advisory, Global Private Banking. With more than 20 years in banking, including 11 in private banking, he will lead a team of CDD advisors to facilitate onboarding and reviews of complex UHNW cases across Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and India.
Samm Zhuo will be appointed Singapore head of client lifecycle management. Zhuo has been “instrumental,” HSBC said, in enhancing and streamlining client onboarding and CDD processes.
Minying Chen will join as regional CDD quality assurance team lead, based in Singapore. She brings 18 years of CDD and controls experience, most recently with Credit Suisse.
Liam Gormley joined as senior business financial crime risk manager, Asia Global Private Banking, wealth and personal services, focusing on anti-money laundering, sanctions, and financial crime risk in South Asia.
